THE ROBERT ROYAL FOUNDATION
Founded in 2006, The Robert Royal Foundation is a 501(c)3 dedicated to empowering youth in our community through a holistic approach that emphasizes wellness, healthy living, and educational advancement. Building upon Robert Royal’s legacy, our mission is to combat the childhood obesity epidemic and foster a supportive environment for young people to excel.
Our objectives are to promote wellness and healthy living by encouraging physical activities and providing resources that promote a healthy lifestyle. We are committed to offering education scholarships to support academic advancement and career aspirations. Our programs are designed to address childhood obesity through comprehensive education, exercise, and nutrition guidance.
By equipping young people with the knowledge and tools necessary for informed decision-making, we strive to empower them to lead healthier, more successful lives. Additionally, we aim to support community development, creating a nurturing environment where youth can grow and thrive with the opportunities and resources they need to succeed. Through these efforts, we are bridging the gap between dreams and reality for the youth in our community.

Robert Shelton Royal: Founder and Visionary
Robert Shelton Royal, born on May 15, 1979, in New Orleans, Louisiana, has built a distinguished career both on and off the football field. A 1997 graduate of Edna Karr High School, Robert excelled in both football and basketball, earning an athletic scholarship to Louisiana State University. At LSU, he achieved All-American honors in 2001 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2002.
Robert’s professional football career began when he was drafted in the 5th round of the 2002 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins, where he played tight end for four years. He continued his career with a five-year contract with the Buffalo Bills in 2006, where he made significant community contributions, supporting youth and disabled veterans. In 2009, Robert signed a four-year deal with the Cleveland Browns and created “The Royal Kingdom Program,” providing game tickets and meals to children in Cleveland, further cementing his commitment to community service.
His dedication to youth empowerment inspired Robert to found The Robert Royal Foundation in 2000, initially offering football camps to underprivileged children in his hometown of New Orleans. The success of these camps led the foundation to expand its focus, developing the T.E.A.M. P.H.I.T Kidz Football, Cheer & Wellness Clinic. This program offers fun fitness and healthy eating tools to children aged 8-18 and has been so successful that it now includes workshops for parents on healthy eating at home. Additionally, the foundation offers educational scholarships to help youth advance their careers and pursue higher education.
Robert’s commitment to community service and youth empowerment continues to drive the mission of The Robert Royal Foundation. He currently serves as the Vice President of the New Orleans Former Players Chapter, advocating for the welfare of former NFL athletes. As President of the Algiers Economic Development Foundation (AEDF), Robert works tirelessly to foster a sustainable, business-friendly environment in New Orleans, driving investment and job growth through advocacy and business development efforts.
Alongside his wife, Robert is actively involved in developing affordable housing projects in New Orleans, contributing to the positive transformation of the community and leaving a lasting impact on the lives of its residents.
